§ 63. Mr. Dribergasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to what extent the present ban on the private import of U.S. cigarettes to Germany has been effective in checking the widespread use of cigarettes as currency; and approximately how many cigarettes were imported duty-free by or on behalf of U.S. troops before this ban was imposed.
Mr. McNeilThe ban on the private importation into Germany of American cigarettes has been in operation only since 1st June, and it is not yet possible to estimate its effect on the use of cigarettes as currency. As regards the second part of the Question, I regret that no information is available.
