HC Deb 24 February 1947 vol 433 c248W
109. Mr. T. Brown

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps are being taken by his Department to get the required machinery necessary for deep-mine coal production, such as coal cutters, long wall and heading machines, conveyors and conveyor belting, etc.. the spare parts for the machines now out of commission due to lack of supplies in many parts of the coalfields; and if he will see to it that when priority certificates are issued those certificates are honoured by his Department.

Mr. Gaitskell

There is the fullest cooperation between my Department and the manufacturers in making available the increased capacity to meet demands for mining machinery and equipment. I am not aware that any machines are out of commission due to lack of spare parts. I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply that it has not been necessary to issue priority certificates to manufacturers in this field but should it prove necessary to do so he would ensure that they were honoured.
