HC Deb 17 February 1947 vol 433 c124W
86. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the Minister of Works if he is aware that building materials required for housing by local authorities have been delayed in delivery owing to the rail traffic ban in the Eastern area; and what steps he is taking to overcome this ban in so far as it affects such materials.

Mr. Key

Yes, Sir. When any interruption of normal rail traffic occurs, my regional officers immediately make every effort to obtain from the railway company an alternative routing for building materials required for priority work. If this is not practicable, they endeavour to arrange road transport. I am satisfied that everything possible is done to reduce such delays.
