HC Deb 13 February 1947 vol 433 c88W
95. Mr. Sparks

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware of the longstanding practice of the Gas Light and Coke Company to leave street lamps burning continuously in hours of daylight and for long periods unnecessarily; and what steps he is taking to put an end to such waste.

Mr. Shinwell

I am aware that owing to labour and technical difficulties it is unavoidable that in some areas street-lighting is turned on before darkness sets in and remains on in daylight during the early mornings. Any complaints of apparently unnecessary lighting are immediately investigated and suitable action taken with the lighting authority to get it stopped. If my hon. Friend has any particular area in mind I will have specific inquiries made.
