HC Deb 11 February 1947 vol 433 cc52-3W
112. Sir P. Hannon

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if his attention has been called to the target set by the U.S.A. for coal export to Europe of 3o to 35 million tons; and if any plan is in process to secure an allocation of this coal for Great Britain.

Mr. Gaitskell

I am advised that the appropriate United States authorities are examining the possibility of increasing the programme, which is at present about 2,000,000 tons per month, of shipments of U.S. Coal to Europe, but I am not yet aware of any firm target. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.
