HC Deb 11 February 1947 vol 433 c52W
109. Mr. Wilson Harris

asked the Minister of Labour whether entries to the universities in October, 1947, are to include a fixed proportion of ex-Servicemen.

Mr. Isaacs

It has been agreed with the universities that ex-Servicemen should have the same priority as last year with regard to entry into universities in October, 1947. This does not necessarily imply a fixed proportion of ex-Servicemen; it: means that if there is competition for admission between ex-Servicemen and others, at least 90 per cent. of the available places must be given to the former, provided they are accepted as suitable for admission. It is for the university concerned to decide whether an ex-Service candidate is or is not up to the standard for acceptance.
