Mr. Robens

asked the Minister of Labour the number of persons registered as handicapped by disablement.

Mr. Isaacs

The number of persons registered as disabled under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944, at the 16th December, 1946, was 729,113.

Mr. Robens

asked the Minister of Labour how many companies have been incorporated under the provisions of Clause 15, (2) of the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act; the number of such persons employed by each; and the nature of work upon which they are engaged.

Mr. Isaacs

One company, The Disabled Persons Employment Corporation has been incorporated under the provisions of Section 15 (2) of the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act. The number of severely disabled persons at present employed by this Corporation is 264. These workpeople are engaged on light assembly of engineering and electrical components, wood work, leather work, cardboard box making, polishing and painting, watch and clock repairs, and rug making.
