51. Wing-Commander Robinson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of dollar exchange involved in the purchase of strawberries from the U.S.A. for the Christmas season; and why dollar exchange is given for the purchase of commodities which are unlikely to reach this country in an edible condition.

Mr. Dalton

£20 sterling. I have no evidence that any of this fruit arrived in bad condition.

Mr. Dalton

Seventy-eight per cent., 10 per cent. and 12 per cent., respectively.
