Mr. Osborneasked the Minister of Works if he is aware that the schoolroom and choir vestry of the Victoria Road Methodist Church, Mablethorpe, which have been in his Department's possession throughout the war, are now urgently required by the church for their proper use; that, in answer to this request, a requisition order has been served recently; on what grounds and by whose authority the order was issued; and if he will take steps to return this property to the church trustees without delay.
§ Mr. TomlinsonI am aware of the circumstances of this case and I will gladly surrender this accommodation, which was hired for use as a Ministry of Labour employment office, as soon as alternative arrangements can be made. As the Trustees were unable to extend the tenancy beyond the end of December, 1946, it was necessary to retain possession under Section 28 (2) of the Requisitioned Land and War Works Act, 1945.
