HC Deb 05 February 1947 vol 432 c364W
96. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the functions and composition of the Bermuda Labour Board.

Mr. Creech Jones

The Bermuda Labour Board carries out the work of an employment bureau, supplying labour as required and collating information regarding prevailing wage rates. Another important function of the Board is to endeavour to bring about the settlement of labour disputes by conciliation before recourse is had to the provisions of the local Labour Disputes (Arbitration and Enquiry) Act, 1945. The Board is representative of all classes of the community. Of its eight members, four belong to the coloured section.
