§ 43. Mr. S. Shephardasked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that the pay of adjutants and quartermasters of the Territorial Army, which is to be £450 per annum and £350 per annum respectively, is unlikely to attract the type of person required for these responsible positions and whether he will ensure that the rates of pay are high enough to secure men with the necessary qualifications.
§ Mr. BellengerThese rates were based on the expectation that the officers would not have to give the whole of their time to this work. We have, however, reviewed the rates in the light of the probable amount of time which the officers will be required to devote and have decided to increase the rates to £600 a year for adjutants and £500 a year for quartermasters.
