HC Deb 04 February 1947 vol 432 c327W
99. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Secretary of State for War how many Japanese prisoners of war still remain in Malaya; how many have been used for purposes of strike breaking in 1947; and when these prisoners will be evacuated to Japan.

Mr. Bellenger

There are no Japanese prisoners of war in Malaya but there are 48,000 surrendered personnel in Singapore and Malaya. None have been used for strike breaking in 1947. We plan to begin repatriating them in the near future.
