§ Sir R. Glynasked the Minister of Supply how much of the large tonnage of iron railings removed from public and private property during the war has been, or is being used, to augment the quantity of scrap urgently needed by the steel industry; what it is proposed to do with such of this material as is not well suited for this purpose but is still lying in large dumps in various districts occupying valuable space; and whether applications can be made for the recovery of railings, at a 441W price based on weight, for use as fencing for public and private purposes.
§ Mr. G. R. StraussSo far as I am aware, all the iron railings collected during the war have been or are being used by iron and steel works for scrap, but if the hon. Member will let me have particulars of the large dumps to which he refers, I will have the matter investigated, as the need for wrought and cast iron scrap is still very urgent. If, however, small quantities of railings can be identified, I am prepared to consider the proposal contained in the last part of the hon. Member's Question.
