§ 40. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Food whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory conditions operating at Cross Farm slaughterhouse, Hadleigh, Sussex; whether he will make arrangements for the installation of the Weinberg pen for the Jewish killing of animals which is still available and the absence of which is causing as much as four minutes 271W unnecessary suffering to animals in some cases.
§ Mr. StracheyOfficers of my Department have been in touch with representatives of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and of the Jewish Community about the arrangements for the slaughter of animals in accordance with Jewish requirements at Hadleigh. It is now agreed that it would be impossible to instal a Weinberg pen without extensive alterations to the premises.
