§ 77. Mr. J. S. C. Reidasked the Minister of Food what was the total quantity of meat, excluding offals, used for human consumption in the United Kingdom during the last three months for which particulars are available; how much of this was required to meet the basic civilian ration; how much was consumed in canteens and restaurants; and how the remainder was used.
§ Mr. StracheyDuring the three months August-October, 1947, 380,600 tons of meat (excluding offal but including 11,100 tons of canned corned meat) were used for human consumption. The distribution of this meat between different uses is estimated as follows:

§ 82. Mr. Keenanasked the Minister of Food if he will instruct the retail butchers in the Liverpool area to mark the prices per lb. of meats, lamb and mutton, offered for sale in their shops thus enabling customers to check their purchases.

§ Mr. StracheyAll retail butchers must display a schedule showing the maximum retail prices of all cuts of meat, but I am afraid that it would not be practical to adopt this further suggestion.
