§ 87. Mr. Dumpletonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement regarding the rectification of the boundary between Kenya and Ethiopia.
Mr. Creech JonesYes. I am glad to be able to inform the House that agreement has been reached with the Ethiopian Government for the rectification of this boundary, which has never previously been satisfactorily determined. The boundary was originally described in an Agreement between His Majesty's Government and the Government of Ethiopia in 1907 but was never actually demarcated. The rectification now agreed upon involves some small, and mutually advantageous, exchanges of territory arising principally from the need to secure suitable watering places for tribes in British and Ethiopian territory respectively. I am arranging with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to place copies of the Exchange of Notes constituting the agreement with the Government of Ethiopia on this matter in the Library of the House at an early date.
