HC Deb 03 April 1947 vol 435 cc373-4W
Sir T. Lucas

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation how many miles of sea wall it is proposed to erect at Cliffe for the flying base there and the approximate cost; and the relative distances between Portsmouth Dockyard and Langstone Harbour, and Chatham Dockyard and Cliffe, respectively.

Mr. Lindgren

Cliffe is, at present, but one among a number of possible sites for a permanent marine airport. Only detailed surveys now in progress will show how long and how substantial a sea wall might be required. No estimate of the length or cost can therefore be given at this stage. As to the last part of the Question, Langstone Harbour is 3½ miles from Portsmouth Dockyard and Cliffe is 6 miles from Chatham Dockyard.
