HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 c319W
85. Mr. Harold Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why there is serious congestion in the Law Courts in the Seychelles; what steps are being taken to appoint additional magistrates; and why no juvenile courts have yet been established.

Mr. Creech Jones

I am informed by the Governor that the law courts in Seychelles are not abnormally congested at the present time. It is recognised, however, that the position is not satisfactory and steps to expedite the despatch of business are being considered. I am also informed that there would not be sufficient work for a full-time magistrate in place of the present two part-time justices of the peace. As regards the last part of the Question, a juvenile court has been established.
