HC Deb 31 October 1946 vol 428 cc140-1W
Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Health how many schemes have now been approved for district heating; and what steps are being taken by his Department to stimulate the submission of further schemes, with a view to greater efficiency in the use of the limited amount of coal available.

Mr. Bevan

In England and Wales one district heating scheme is being installed on a local authority housing estate and three others have been approved in principle. A circular is being sent to local authorities generally informing them that I am prepared to entertain proposals for district heating on their housing estates and my officers will, where appropriate, urge local authorities to consider this method of heating.
