asked the Minister of Health (1) the names of housing authorities, county, city, borough, town and urban district councils, who have made arrangements for the inclusion of homes for aged people; and the number of such houses to date;

(2) if he will include in the Monthly Progress Report the number of houses completed for the aged people.

Up to 30th September, tenders had been approved for 6,766 one-bedroomed dwellings and a considerable proportion of these are designed for the housing of aged people. The following is a list of authorities concerned. Information as to the number of these houses which have been completed is not at present available.

Mr. Parkin

asked the Minister of Health what local authorities in Gloucestershire have made provision in their housing schemes for single-bedroom flats for the accommodation of old people; and what steps he is taking to encourage this method of securing the release of larger houses.

Mr. Bevan

The corporation of Gloucester and the Tetbury Rural District Council have included provision in their schemes for single-bedroomed dwellings which are in the main intended for old people. The importance of providing dwellings of various sizes in the right proportions, including small flats for old people, has been brought to the notice of local authorities in the Housing Manual, 1944, and in the report of the Design of Dwellings Sub-Committee of the Central Housing Advisory Committee.
