asked the Secretary of State for War the total amount of money received from employers of German prisoners of war; and the amount paid back to German prisoners of war since 1st May, 1946.

I regret that the figures could not be made available without a disproportionate amount of work. I would refer the noble Lord to the reply given on 16th July by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer to my hon. Friend the Member for Ipswich (Mr. Stokes) of which I am sending him a copy.
