HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 c62W
41. Mr. S. Shephard

asked the Minister of Labour the number of disabled persons employed in industry; and what percentage this number represents of the total employed.

Mr. Isaacs

I estimate that the number of registered disabled persons in employment on 17th September last was about 590,000, which would represent approximately 3.76 per cent. of the total employed population at that date. This, of course, understates the real percentage of disabled persons in employment, as many of them have not yet registered.

42. Mr. S. Shephard

asked the Minister of Labour the number of disabled persons employed by Government Departments and by local authorities, respectively; and what percentages these numbers represent of the total employed.

Mr. Isaacs

The number of registered disabled persons recorded in non-industrial employment in the Government Service on 1st July last was 31,038 representing 4.5 per cent. of the total so employed. The corresponding figure for industrial employment in the Government Service at the same date was 18,908; a percentage of 4.8 of the total so employed. No comparable figures in respect of local authorities are available.
