HC Deb 21 November 1946 vol 430 c146W
83. Mr. Hurd

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men in the Armed Forces have been accepted as probationer police constables; and if these men are being given immediate release in order to train for their new duties.

Mr. Ede

In the period from 1st January to 31st October of this year, 1,419 applications were forwarded to the Service Departments by the Home Office, on behalf of the appointing authorities, for the release under the Class B scheme of approved candidates for the police. Most of these applications have been approved; the men, on their release, have been appointed as members of their particular police force and, like all other police recruits, have been sent to a 13 weeks' residential training course
