HC Deb 21 November 1946 vol 430 cc146-7W
84. Mr. A. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider appointing suitable disabled ex-Servicemen to undertake the duties of controlling traffic at school crossings, etc., and thus relieve policemen for other duties and reduce the road accident toll.

Mr. Ede

Discussions on this subject have recently taken place between the various Departments concerned with the question of ensuring the safety of schoolchildren on their way to and from school, and I hope that proposals for dealing with it will be made to local authorities at an early date.
