HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 cc195-6W
131. Mr. J. Evans

asked the Minister of National Insurance whether he will consider payment of the new pension rate to wives under 6o years of age, provided they are not engaged in gainful employment and provided the husband is over 65 years of age and in receipt of a pension.

Mr. Steele

When the National Insurance Scheme is fully operative a man receiving a retirement pension will generally be entitled to an increase of pension in respect of a wife under 60 who is not gainfully occupied but I cannot undertake to bring this provision into effect in advance of the Appointed Day for the whole scheme.
