§ Colonel Wheatleyasked the Minister of Food if he will consider approving an extra ration of butter or cheese to expectant mothers in lieu of present extra meat allowed.
§ Mr. StracheyExtra meat is allowed to expectant mothers because my medical advisers consider that they need additional protein and that this can best be provided by the extra ration of meat. As I am advised that an extra ration of butter or cheese would not have the equivalent nutritional value, I should not be justified in adopting the alternative suggested.
