HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c186W
Mr. N. Smith

asked the Minister of Food whether he will prohibit the sale of beer in receptacles, other than pint or half-pint containers.

Mr. Strachey

No, Sir. Seventy-five per cent. of the beer brewed is sold as draught beer, and it is already illegal to sell any quantity of half a pint or more in a container which is not marked according to imperial standards; on the other hand, many people prefer a glass of beer to a half-pint; but it is always open to a customer to ask for a half-pint if that is the quantity he requires.
