HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 c58W
115. Mr. McEntee

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that large numbers of men in the building trade have been informed that wages will not be paid to them for the national holiday declared by the Government on 8th June; and if the Government will take steps to see that men in this and other trades are not compelled to suffer loss of wages for this day of national celebration.

Mr. Ness Edwards

I have no direct information regarding the arrangements for 8th June, in the building industry. This is a matter for negotiation between the two sides and there is no action that my right hon. Friend can take either as regards this industry or any others.
