HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 c61W
123. Mr. K. Lindsay

asked the Minister of Education how many of the 231 direct Grant schools have been confirmed in their status; how many have become independent; how many are awaiting decision; and how many new applications have been received and with what results.

Mr. Hardman

Applications have been received from 196 out of the 231 schools. In 163 cases recognition has-been granted. 25 schools, including four which had been granted recognition, have decided to become independent. No decisions are outstanding, but in one case the recognition is provisional until next July. 36 applications have been received from schools not previously recognised for direct grant; of these four have been accepted and 32 rejected.
