HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 cc180-1W
109. Mr. S. Shephard

asked the Minister of Works how many licences to build new factories or to add on to existing factories have been issued since V J-Day; what amount of floor-space these licences involve; and how the total floor-space is allocated as between development areas and non-development areas.

Mr. Tomlinson:

2,831 licences have been granted for new factories and for extensions to existing factories since VJ-Day. I cannot give precise figures for the floor space involved, but the total would be in the neighbourhood of 30,000,000 square feet, of which about 14,000,000 would be in development areas.
