HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 c180W
104. Sir W. Darling

asked the Minister of Works, in view of the shortage of bricks, what steps are being taken to stimulate stone quarrying in general and the manufacture of artificial stone in Scotland.

Mr. Tomlinson:

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport has arranged for a substantial allocation of prisoners of war and an allocation of heavy excavators for stone quarries. The manufacture of artificial stone in Scotland is being stimulated by support of applications to erect new works and by assistance to manufacturers in obtaining labour, transport and plant.
