HC Deb 09 May 1946 vol 422 c113W
2. Mr. Hale

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is now in a position to make an announcement with regard to the question of police pay.

Mr. Oliver:

As my right hon. Friend explained in his reply to the hon Member's previous Question, it was part of the settlement of police pay that the new rates which came into force on 1st April, 1945, should stand for three years in the absence of any radical change in general economic conditions. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Police Council held in February, but after considering the views expressed at that meeting, my right hon. Friend came to the conclusion that no such radical change had occurred as would justify him in reopening the matter.
