Cooperasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil 58W Aviation if a contract has yet been placed by B.O.A.C., and what was the date of placing it, for the construction of any accommodation or the provision of other facilities which it is proposed to use as part of the temporary flying-boat base at Southampton; what are the details of the additional accommodation or facilities it is proposed to provide; what is the cost of each item; has any contract received the sanction of the Air Ministry or Treasury; and what was the date the sanction was given to B.O.A.C.
Mr. Ivor Thomas:Two floating docks, costing £25,000, have recently been constructed and would be used at Southampton; they will be of use elsewhere on the establishment of a permanent base. Apart from this, no contracts have yet been placed, but expenditure involved in a move to Southampton is estimated as follows:
