HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 cc405-6W
78. Mr. Skinnard

asked the Minister of Education whether she has considered a communication from the Harrow Education Committee, pointing out that the temporary arrangements to deal with overcrowding at Cannon Lane, Stanburn and Glebe Avenue schools are inadequate; and whether she will reconsider her decision not to provide hutting accommodation at these schools.

Miss Wilkinson

The problem of school accommodation in the Harrow area has been carefully considered in consultation with the local education authority. 1 have agreed that two huts to provide four classrooms should be erected at Stanburn school. In the other two cases I am not satisfied that the needs of the schools concerned, when considered in relation to the needs of the county as a whole and the heavy demands on building labour, justify the provision of huts at the present moment.
