HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c377W
Captain C. Smith

asked the Minister of Works the date on which Birch aerodrome, Essex, was offered to his Department by the Air Ministry; what representations he has received from any local authorities who wish to use accommodation on the aerodrome for temporary housing; whether his Department has disposed of this aerodrome; and, if so, to whom and on what date.

Mr. Tomlinson

This runwayed airfield was declared by the Air Ministry on 19th October as available on loan to the Ministry of Works and other Departments, and the accommodation is being used for Government purposes. The airfield is to be acquired by the State, to secure efficient use of the land for agricultural purposes, and the question of disposal, therefore, does not arise. No representations with regard to this airfield have been received from any local authority.
