HC Deb 15 February 1946 vol 419 cc167-8W
Dr. Clitherow

asked the Minister of Pensions if he is satisfied with the procedure followed by his Department in delegating the investigation of alleged immorality by service widows to a male officer, who makes such investigation at the woman's home, in the absence of another woman; and if he will consider the suggestions sent him, over a case put to him by the hon. Member for Edgehill, that such investigations or questions should only be made in the Ministry offices, with a woman present at the interview and a friend, if requested.

Mr. Wilfred Paling

It has not previously been represented to me that the -procedure adopted by my Department where inquiries of this kind are necessary is open to objection in the sense indicated by my hon. Friend. I will, however, give careful consideration to the suggestions which the hon. Member has sent to me.
