HL Deb 10 December 1946 vol 144 c766WA
THE DUKE OF MONTROSE

asked whether the development and control of helicopters will be left to private enterprise or will be brought under Government control.

LORD NATHAN

Arrangements for the development and control of helicopters are the same as those for other aircraft. It is open to any private enterprise in the country to design and construct helicopters at their own expense, and I am glad to say that several firms in the aircraft industry are taking an interest in this promising field of air transport. In addition, the Ministry of Supply have placed contracts for prototype helicopters with two firms, and are also conducting research and experimental work in Government establishments.

House adjourned at eighteen minutes before six o'clock.
