asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty how many R.N. and ex-R.N. personnel were on demobilisation leave on 31st August 1946.
Until the naval accounts have all been received, it is only possible to estimate the figures from the returns of people discharged at that time. The estimated numbers are: 56,024 officers, ratings and other ranks of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and 9,497 of the W.R.N.S.
