§ 117. Mr. J. Morrisonasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that in some areas in the south-west there is still a general shortage of 19W tyres for agricultural tractors and motor-lorries; and what steps he is taking to rectify the position.
§ Mr. BelcherThere is a general shortage of certain sizes of tyres for agricultural tractors and motor-lorries, and this is not limited to the south-west. The shortage is due to a large increase in demand and to production being limited by mould capacity and the availability of trained labour. Every effort is being made to increase output. Steps have been taken to ensure, that no vehicle need be immobilised for lack of such tyres. If there is serious risk of this happening to a particular vehicle, the owner should bring the facts to the notice of tyre manufacturers through his supplier.
