HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 c21W
Mr. Driberg

asked the Prime Minister what representations he has received advocating a procedure whereby changes in the formularies of the Church of England could receive the Royal Assent without approval or debate by Parliament; and if he will give an assurance that, so long as the Church of England retains its established status, His Majesty's Government will not agree to such a procedure.

The Prime Minister

I have received no representations in the sense which my hon. Friend suggests I do not think that it would be desirable, or indeed helpful, for His Majesty's Government to give any assurance or make any comment on any suggestion for Church reform involving the Crown unless and until definite proposals emerge.
