§ Mr. Prittasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been called to the law which passed the Egyptian Senate on 10th July, 1946, which lays wide restrictions on freedom of speech; and whether he has made, or proposes to make, any representations to the Egyptian Government on this law and its effects on British subjects.
Mr. Noel-BakerNo, Sir; but I am aware that the Egyptian Government have recently promulgated legislation, and taken action, to curb certain activities directed against the existing order. His Majesty's Government do not propose to make any representations to the Egyptian Government in this matter.
