HC Deb 04 April 1946 vol 421 c220W
22. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Health to what extent local authorities are empowered to use cement blocks and other varieties of material in place of bricks; whether there is any shortage; and what steps are being taken to augment the supply of such articles where required.

Mr. Bevan:

No objection is raised to the use by local authorities of alternatives to brick, provided the materials and form of construction comply with recognised standards and the cost is reasonable. Every encouragement is being given to manufacturers to increase production.
