HC Deb 04 April 1946 vol 421 cc220-1W
Sir P. Hannon

asked the Minister of Health if he has considered the representations from the Housing Committee of the Birmingham County Council and the British Legion on the adaptation of Army camps and other temporary buildings erected for war purposes being made habitable for families, pending the development of the housing schemes now contemplated by the Birmingham Estates Committee; and if, wherever possible, such war period buildings will be moved to sites which would present easy access to the provision of water, gas and electricity.

Mr. Bevan:

I do not appear to have received these representations but I should be glad to consider on its merits any proposal by the local authority for the use of wartime buildings. I have already issued a Circular to local authorities on this subject, and I am sending the hon. Member a copy. Public services are usually available to the existing sites, and I doubt whether removal of these buildings would in many cases be worth while.
