HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 c164W
119. Flyinģ-Officer Bowden

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will, by broadcast or otherwise, issue a public appeal to all persons on whose land there are dead and fallen trees, to sell this timber to timber merchants, as much of this can be cut and resold for fuel and other purposes.

Mr. Shinwell:

I have no evidence of any reluctance to sell dead or fallen timber. My hon. Friend will appreciate that the difficulty about using this timber is that it involves heavy expense in labour and equipment. I am most anxious that no timber suitable for fuel should be wasted and if my hon. Friend has any particular instance in mind and will let me have details I will see what can be done to encourage the necessary cooperation between the interests concerned.
