§ Mr. Emrys Robertsasked the Secretary of State for War why blasting operations of great force still take place at Trawsfynydd, Merioneth, in spite of the repeated assurances given to the hon. Member for Merioneth that the force of the operations would be reduced; and whether he will now put an end to the blasting operations arising from the destruction of surplus ammunition at Trawsfynydd.
§ Mr. Lawson:The size of the demolitions has already been considerably reduced but a further thorough investigation is being carried out. Because of the condition of these explosives, it is not possible to dispose of them by dumping at sea or by breaking them down and the artillery range at Trawsfynydd has been selected as the most suitable site available.
