HC Deb 30 October 1945 vol 415 cc390-1W
Mr. K. Lindsay

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the inquiry into the employment of children and young persons instituted by his Department has now been completed; when the results will be published; and if agreement has now been reached in the consultations between his Department, the Ministry of Education and representatives of local authorities.

Mr. Ede

In response to a request made by my predecessor local authorities throughout the country were good enough to send to the Home Office information about the working of their byelaws and suggestions for any amendment of the law which they considered desirable. The results of this inquiry were examined in consultation with the Government Departments concerned, and have been recently considered at a conference of local authority representatives at which there was a substantial measure of agreement. There are some particular forms of employment on which further consultation is required and this is being actively pursued.
