§ Mr. Cookasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of trade schools for pre-vocational training in Scotland at present; where they are situated and if it is his intention to extend this facility to cover every part of the country.
Mr. FraserThere are ten centres in Scotland with full-time pre-apprenticeship courses for the building industry and six with pre-apprenticeship courses for engineering. The courses for building are provided in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Coatbridge, Paisley, Falkirk and Inverness; and those for engineering at Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Kirkcaldy and Coat-bridge. Most centres serve the needs not only of the area in which they are situated but also of neighbouring areas. I hope to see the extension of pre-apprenticeship training to other appropriate industries and, as may be necessary, to other parts of the country.
