HC Deb 14 November 1945 vol 415 cc2291-2W
Mr. Garry Allighan

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that there is, within the camp limits of the Gloucester Regiment Headquarters Company, School of Infantry at Warminster, Wiltshire, a Church of England Institute canteen for the use of troops, but which is barred to sergeants of the permanent staff, on the grounds that it is bad for discipline for sergeant-instructors to mix with the students; and if he will give instructions for this situation to be remedied.

Mr. Lawson

This arrangement was not made for disciplinary reasons. The canteens and messes available to the school are allotted so as to provide the most comfortable amenities for all ranks having regard to the accommodation and the institute is reserved for the students, including student sergeants, with that object in view.
