HC Deb 08 November 1945 vol 415 cc1606-7W
Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for War what proportion of Government messengers employed in War Department outstations are classed as industrial employees; and what sick pay is granted to such messengers during absence due to illness arising out of their employment.

Mr. Lawson

All messengers in War Department outstation establishments are classed as industrial employees, and their entitlement to payments during sickness is normally governed by the workmen's compensation provisions. Where these provisions do not apply, but the employee is suffering from an illness specifically attributable to the nature of his duty, he may be granted special weeklypayments under a Departmental rule, for a period not exceeding six months.
