§ Mr. W. J. Edwardsasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that naval personnel are being called upon to travel a return journey of over 1,000 miles for the purpose of interview for transfer to the Army; and will he take steps to stop this waste of transport and time.
829W
Mr. AlexanderMen selected for transfer to the Army are chosen after medical examination so as to ensure, as far as possible, that they conform to the degree of fitness required by the Army. The men are not sent for interview, but are concentrated at one establishment for efficiency of administration and for subsequent dispersal to Army units. It is only the few who are rejected who return, and it is doubtful whether their round journey is as long as that suggested by my hon. and gallant Friend.
